Arrest Sagar-Runi killers by Mar 18
Journalists demand in Ctg
Journalist leaders here yesterday demanded arrest of the killers of Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi before journalists' March 18 grand rally to be held in Dhaka.
The journalists are now united for the demand over the murder of the journalist couple, said Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, president, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).
Ruhul Amin Gazi, another BFUJ president, said the home minister had pledged to arrest the killers within 48 hours, but now police are telling us to wait.
“How long will we have to wait?" he asked.
He alleged that law enforcement agencies were now trying to stage a drama regarding the killing. “We will not accept any sort of cooked up story”.
He also warned of tougher movement if the killers are not arrested within March 18.
The journalist leaders made the remarks at a meeting jointly organised by Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chittagong Metropolitan Union of Journalists (CMUJ) at Chittagong Press Club (CPC), demanding arrest and punishment of the killers of Sagar and Runi.
BFUJ leaders visited Chittagong yesterday, as part of the central leaders' countrywide tour to gather support ahead of journalists' March 18 grand rally to be held with the same demand.
CMUJ president Shamsul Hoque Haidari chaired the meeting.
Shawkat Mahmud, Shahid-ul-Alam, Moshtak Ahmed, Shamsuddin Harun, Asif Siraj, Rashed Rauf, M Nasirul Hoque, Osman Gani Mansur, Jahedul Karim Kachi, Ataul Hakim, Obaidul Haque, Md Shahnewaj, and Nazimuddin Shyamal, among others, also spoke.
