Eight people die in road accidents

Eight people were killed and 45 others injured in separate road crashes in Patuakhali, Thakurgaon, Chittagong, Jessore, Kishoreganj, Sirajganj, Gaibandha and Dinajpur on Monday and yesterday. Our Patuakhali Correspondent reports: Two persons were killed and two others injured in a road accident on Kuakata-Patuakhali road in Kalanko area on Monday. The deceased were identified as Abdul Kader Khan, 45, and Rustom Ali Howlader, 85, of Tiakhali village in Kalapara upazila. Hossain Pada, a hired motorcycle driver along with Kader and Enayet Hossain was going to Kalapara from Amtali riding a motorcycle. The motorcycle hit Rustam from behind in Kalanko area and all of them, including the motorcycle, fell into a roadside ditch, said police. Rustom died on the spot while Kader succumbed to his injuries on the way to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Hossain and Enayet were admitted to Kalapara Hospital. Our Thakurgaon Correspondent adds: A college student was killed in a road crash on Pirganj-Thakurgaon road in front of Pirganj Police Station at Pirganj upazila yesterday. The victim was identified as Shohel, 18, son of Anwarul Islam of Velatoir village in Pirganj upazila and also a student of Dinajpur Government College. A bus hit the boy from behind while he was returning home from Pirganj riding on a motorcycle, leaving him dead on the spot, said police. Police detained Liton, 22, a helper of the bus, and seized the vehicle. Our Chittagong Correspondent reports: A student of Chittagong Polytechnic Institute was killed at Tiger Pass intersection in the port city when a truck rammed his motorcycle on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Nurul Amin alias Palash, 25, of Firingibazar area in the port city, police said. A speeding truck rammed Palash's motorcycle, leaving him dead on the spot. Our Benapole Correspondent adds: A man was killed in a road accident in Palbari area of Jessore town Yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Shahjahan Ali, 50, of Dakatia village in Jessore Sadar upazila. A truck hit him while he was going to the district town riding a bicycle, leaving him injured critically, said police. He was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Our Kishoreganj Correspondent reports: A teacher was killed in a road accident in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Ali Ahmed, 50, teacher of Chiknirchar Registry Primary School in Sadar upazila and resident of Awliapara village of the upazila. A tractor hit Ali from behind in Binnati area of the upazila when he was going to the school, leaving him dead on the spot, said police. Our Sirajganj Correspondent adds: A pedestrian was killed when a coach ran over him on Hatikimrul-Bonpara highway at Tarash upazila in Sirajganj on Monday noon. The deceased was identified as Rahmat Ali Kabiraj, 55, of Mahmoodpur village in Salanga upazila, said police. Our Gaibandha Correspondent reports: One person was killed and six others sustained injuries in a road crash at Dhaperhat on Rangpur-Bogra highway yesterday. The deceased is Shafiul Islam, 35, of Jamalpur village in Pirganj upazila. Police said a group of farm labourers were going to Bogra by a three-wheeler in search of jobs. The driver of the three-wheeler lost control over the steering and the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch, leaving Shafiul dead on the spot. The injured were admitted to Pirganj Health Complex and Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Our Dinajpur Correspondent: At least 37 people were injured in a road crash in Ramdubi area on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway yesterday.
