Inform nation of developments
MP asks Shahara at JS
Independent MP Fazlul Azim demanded in parliament yesterday that Home Minister Shahara Khatun inform the nation of the latest developments in the case filed over the killing of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
“The whole nation is eagerly waiting to know about the update of the brutal killing of Sagar-Runi. On behalf of the people, I urge the home minister to deliver speech in the House, informing people of the sensational double murder”, he said.
Speaking on a point of order, the lone independent MP criticised a recent rule of the High Court in which it asked the information secretary to take steps within 24 hours to ensure the media do not publish any speculative news report on the incident.
On February 28, a HC bench directed the authorities not to make any statement to the media without any specific development in the ongoing investigation into the murder.
Sagar and his wife Runi, both journalists, were killed at their apartment in the city on February 11.
Fazlul Azim said people were eagerly waiting to know the development on the journalist couple murder, but the media were not writing about it following the HC rule. The government has failed to ensure freedom of the media, he said.
