Around two crore people in Bangladesh are suffering from kidney diseases while millions more are at risk, kidney consultants said at a health talk yesterday. At another programme, speakers said there were two types of treatment for patients with terminal kidney damage but only 10 percent could take the opportunity. Around 90 percent patients do not have these treatments, as they are expensive and consequently they die, they added. In observance of World Kidney Day, Apollo Hospitals organised the health talk while the other programme was held at Rabindra Sarobor in the city's Dhanmondi. Doctors, teachers, journalists, and social workers gathered took part in the programmes and emphasised campaigning on the prevention of kidney diseases and awareness among people. The Rabindra Sarabor programme was organised jointly by Bangladesh Renal Association, Kidney Foundation, Pediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh, Society of Organ Transplant Bangladesh, Camps, and Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.
