Four killed in road crashes

Four persons were killed and another was injured in separate road crashes in Tangail, Chittagong, Rangpur and Satkhira yesterday and on Wednesday. Our Tangail Correspondent reports: An eight-year-old boy was killed in a road crash in Mirzapur upazila yesterday. Alamgir Hossain, a madrasa student and son of Chandu Miah of Kadim Dhalla village in the upazila, was crushed under a bus while he was crossing Dhaka-Tangail highway at Kadim Dhalla with his mother, said police. Our Chittagong Correspondent adds: A man was killed as a bus ran over him at Manasha intersection in Patiya upazila early yesterday. The deceased is Md Rafique, 45, son of late Gazi Ahmed of Bengura at Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong. Police said a Chittagong-bound bus from Cox's Bazar ran over Rafique while he was crossing the road, leaving him critically injured at around 10:30pm on Wednesday.He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 1:30am. Our Rangpur Correspondent adds: A motorcyclist was killed and his co-rider sustained injuries in a road accident on Rangpur-Gangachhara road in Shirin Park area on the outskirts of Rangpur town on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased is Jahangir Alam, 32, son of Jahir Uddin of Uttar Kobaru village at Gangachhara upazila in Rangpur while the injured is Osman Ali, 45, of the same village. A Rangpur-bound speeding truck from Gangachhara upazila hit the motorcycle, leaving Jahangir dead on the spot and Osman injured, said police. Our Satkhira Correspondent reports: A staff of Satkhira Motor Sramik Union was killed after being sandwiched between two buses at Satkhira central bus terminal in the town yesterday. The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rahman, 50, of Binerpota Guchchagram village in Sadar upazila. Fazlur was taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where he died at around 10:00am.
