Roads repair before monsoon
Says Quader
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader here yesterday said all damages on Dhaka-Chittagong highway and other roads elsewhere in the country would be repaired before the rainy season.
The minister said he himself and all the officials of the ministry and the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) would not take any leave rather they would work on the weekly holidays. Even, he said he would not go abroad only to monitor the work.
He said the government would sign a deal with South Korean government to digitalise BRTA, including its licence issuing process.
Quader said this to reporters during his visit to the undergoing four-lane project of Dhaka -Chittagong highway at Sitakunda upazila. He hoped that the project would be completed by December 2013.
About the 22 dangerous curves on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, he said some curves would be made straight while dividers would be built on other turns to minimise road accidents.
The minister also visited newly-built flyover in the port area which is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on March and proposed Karnaphuli River Tunnel at Patenga.
