JU VC's resignation demanded
A group of Jahangirnagar University (JU) teachers yesterday demanded resignation of the university vice-chancellor as he did not meet their demands, including stopping teachers' recruitment.
They also announced a five-day programme to press home their demands. The teachers will observe work abstention today and continue work abstention for two hours from Monday to Thursday.
"We will continue our demonstrations until the university vice-chancellor resigns", Prof Nasim Akhter Hossain, spokesperson for the anti-VC teachers' group called Shikkhak Samaj, told The Daily Star.
The teachers also laid siege to the residence of the vice chancellor from 8:30am to 7:00pm, demanding an end to “irregularities in teachers' recruitment”.
Meanwhile, teachers, who are supporting the VC, staged a counter-demonstration in front of the VC's residence describing Shikkak Samaj's demand as “illogical”.
