Indo-Bangla Issues
Dipu Moni hopes for early settlement
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni yesterday hoped that the pending issues with India, including the sharing of the Teesta waters and ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement by India, would be resolved soon to move forward other identified areas of mutual cooperation.
She expressed the hope when new High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran called on her at the foreign ministry.
The Indian envoy assured her that India was fully committed to doing the needful for an early settlement of the issues of mutual interest, says a foreign ministry press release.
On issues such as Tipaimukh Dam, inter-linking of rivers, and killing of Bangladesh nationals by BSF, Dipu Moni hoped that the Indian high commissioner would understand the emotive nature of the issues and convey to his government the concerns of Bangladesh.
She also recalled the assurances from the highest level of Indian leadership and hoped the Indian government would maintain consultative process with Bangladesh on these issues.
Welcoming the new high commissioner, Dipu Moni expressed her confidence that the envoy, having long experience in working at the Indian Prime Minister's Office on issues relating to Bangladesh-India relations, would have no difficulty in following up on various initiatives agreed upon by the two prime ministers to take the bilateral relations to a new level.
The foreign minister expressed the view that the high commissioner had come to Bangladesh at an interesting juncture of relations between the two countries and would be fully engaged during his tenure in Bangladesh.
