Family members, neighbours and fellow students of Sumi Chowdhury, at a human chain programme yesterday, demanded exemplary punishment to her killer. Sumi was killed by her husband for dowry at their residence in the city's Nalapara last Thursday, claimed her family. Students of Chittagong Government City College, where Sumi was a fourth-year student of accounting department, and residents of Teribazar by-lane also took part at the programme in front of Chittagong Press Club in the port city. Demanding prompt investigation into Sumi's killing, they said, “We want no other girl to die for dowry like Sumi did.” Pony Chowdhury, the deceased's sister, said Sumi was often tortured by her husband Joy Prakash Chowdhury after marriage for dowry. “Even he attempted to murder Sumi several times,” said Pony. Police arrested Joy in connection with Sumi's murder. Chittagong City Corporation Ward Councillor Chowdhury Hassan Mahmud Hasan was present at the programme.
