Say Sylhet BNP leaders
Staff Correspondent, Sylhet
The prime minister's claim, made in a rally at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa on Saturday, that major development projects carried out in Sylhet were the Awami League-led government's achievements was untrue, said Sylhet BNP leaders yesterday. The leaders raised their protest at an emergency meeting held at a city hotel. They said the PM tried to fool people by falsely claiming that the present government established Sylhet Agricultural University and Sylhet Engineering College but they were established in 2006 by the then finance minister Saifur Rahman. Similarly she “falsely claimed” to have upgraded Osmani International Airport whereas it was actually done so during the BNP-led alliance rule at a cost of Tk 200 crore, they said. By inaugurating two power plants, whose initial works began in the alliance rule, the PM claimed to have achieved huge success in the power sector. But the present government plundered public money in the excuse of setting up quick rental power plants, they added. The present government has rather suspended works on different development projects including the Surma bridge at Kazirbazar, initiated in the BNP tenure, they alleged. City BNP President MA Haque presented a statement. District BNP Vice President Dilder Hossain Selim, City vice presidents Nasim Hossain and Badruzzaman Selim, City BNP General Secretary Abdul Quaiyum Jalali and Organising Secretary Rezul Hasan Koyes Lodi also spoke at the programme.
