A fire broke out at a polythene factory at Nimtoli in the old part of the capital yesterday. The fire originated at the factory on the ground floor of the five-story building on Mazed Sardar Road around 2:45pm, fire brigade sources said. Deputy Director of Fire Service, Dhaka Division Sheikh Mizanur Rahman said four fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire an hour later. No casualty was reported. "Our units faced problems to reach the spot for narrow roads in the area. Water sources were not available which delayed taming the fire," he said. The factory also did not have any fire extinguishing equipment. Locals panicked during the incident. Police and fire officials suspect that the fire originated from an electric short circuit of a printing machine in the factory of SM Poly. It burned the first floor completely. Bangshal police said owner of the factory SM Saker Monjur could not be found. Police filed a GD in this connection.
