God is testing us
There is a proverb, 'as you sow, so you reap. We have been sowing the seeds of insolence among our students. We used them in our pursuit of power. The lure of pelf and power dislodged the students from the sacred citadel of knowledge.
So instead of books, pen and paper, they took in their hands rifle, rod and machete to do their mentor's bidding. For long we have seen certain groups of students travelling in trains without tickets, eating in the residential hall canteen without paying. No wonder, now those malpractices have graduated to grisly crime.
Hence we see them vandalising buses for days together only because they want to free their friends indicted in beating traders who are guilty of not giving things gratis. Being a student leader is now a lucrative and secured job. Money comes to them like torrent from different directions-college fund, project fund, tender, racketeering, black marketing, blackmailing innocent people and hijacking even in broad daylight.
After a probationary period on killing and looting, the leaders get 'job confirmation' by way of pardon from the man at the helm. Then they go on making the lives of people hell with impunity.
So now things have come to such a pass that it seems God is testing us on our ability to stand for freedom and truth in the face of formidable falsehood. But I'm sure we will come out successful in this test. Our glorious past is our beacon.
