Seven killed in road accidents

Seven people were killed and one was injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Satkhira, Chittagong, Brahmanbaria and Benapole yesterday and on Monday. Our Tangail Correspondent reports: An 11-year old boy was crushed under the wheels of a truck in Tangail town yesterday morning. The deceased was Rana Miah, a class V student of Bazidpur Government Primary School in the town, and son of Kadam Ali of Bazidpur area. A truck ran over Rana while he was going to the school riding a bicycle, leaving him dead on the spot, said police. Our Dinajpur Correspondent adds: An woman was killed in a road accident on Dinajpur-Bogra highway in Bot Toli area of Sadar upazila yesterday. The victim was identified as Champa Rani 45, wife of Hrishiketas Roy of Uttar Gobindapur village in the upazila. A Dinajpur bound bus ran over Champa while she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot, said police. Following the accident, the locals put up barricades on the highway for three hours. Our Rangpur Correspondent adds: A day-labourer was killed in a road accident at Gorermatha area in Mithapukur upazila of the district on Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Momonul Islam, 30, son of late Abbas Ali of Moyenpur Shikarpur village in Mithapukur upazila. Police said two sand-laden tractors were coming from Nagerhat area of Baderganj upazila. Momonul, who was travelling on one of the tractors, suddenly fell on the ground and another tractor ran over him, leaving him dead on the spot. Our Satkhira Correspondent adds: A trolley driver was killed in a head-on collision between two trolleys at Banshghata intersection in Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Rejwan Mollah, 20, son of Joynal Mollah of Agardari village in the Sadar upazila. The trolleys coming from opposite direction collided head-on, leaving Rejwan, the driver of one of the trolleys, injured critically, said police. Rejwan was rushed to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Our Chittagong Correspondent reports: A truck rammed a bicycle, leaving the rider dead on the spot in front of Shahpir School in Lohagara upazila yesterday. The deceased was Mohammed Jewel, 25, a construction worker and son of Mohammed Bagan Ali of Bhola, said police. Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent adds: A woman was killed in a road crash on Nasir Nagar Road at Dhankura village in Nasir Nagar upazila on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Asia Begum, 35, of Dhankura village. A truck hit Asia while she was crossing the road, leaving her injured critically, said police. She was rushed to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Our Benapole Correspondent reports: A minor boy was killed on the spot and his brother injured when a truck hit their bicycle at Benapole Bazar in jessore yesterday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Toufik Hasan, 6, son of Motiar Rahman of Benapole Bazar. Injured Sojol was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
