Making money by licences? Shame! We want better governance from the government and policymakers. Citizen
How did they make Tk 400 crore? Is it not by corruption? Where are ACC and NBR? Anonymous
Not only political considerations, but also huge amount of bribe was behind these approvals, I think. Abdur Rashid
The fact is very simple. During the previous government's tenure, licences of banks, TV channels and newspapers were given to Jamaat and BNP people in a very systematic way. These are real political tools. So there is nothing surprising here that at the end of the day they (AL) will also fulfil their dream. Abul Kashem
The nation's future is very dark; nevertheless the patriotic political party is in power. They will go on proving that their interest is higher than the country's. Truth Teller
These people already control the country's politics, now they will control the country's financial sector. Power and money: a good combination for them indeed! Dr Qamrul Ahsan
I do not oppose giving licenses to more new banks. What really concerns me is that there is no deposit protection or exit plan for banks prone to failure in the failure. Our deposits with banks need state protection. Bangladesh Bank must make arrangements with all banks in the country to guarantee safe return of deposits. Sellma
A very good write-up but I just wish the people understood all you have written here so that they would not blindly support the party who allowed these bank licences! Hafeejul Alam
It is easy to make political comments. We should not forget that only 40% people are covered by our banking services. If there is already 47 banks, the sky will not fall down if 9 more banks are added. But how did 47 banks get licences earlier? Was it without political backing? It simply couldn't be. Saleh Ahmed
Thanks for the news analysis. If you look into the AL's rule, all the 12 years, since independence, you will find that it is doing nothing but giving governmental benefits to its supporters. Nasirullah Mridha, USA
Influential AL people got the licences of new banks. What are the criteria and requirements for establishing new banks? How much money these people deposited in the state exchequer as tax in the last 5 years? Jonoter Moncho
Isn't it a perfect example of anarchism? One gets it for his political loyalty. One is a direct descendant of the dynastic system in this country. The rest are all close to AL… in so many innovative ways… directly or indirectly. We are simply stunned. I must say that I protest. What are we supposed to do? Can't we fight this legally? Amdem, USA
These banks will give rise to an economic force that will exploit the people. They will squeeze money out of the pockets of the poor people by dubious means. It will not auger a new prosperous era for Bangladesh. Some people who have amassed a huge amount of money pressured the government to create new banks. They were not created out of economic necessity. This is what 92% of the people think.
