Man detained on suspicion of murdering mother
Police detained a 25-year-old man from his residence in the capital's Merajnagar in Kadamtali yesterday after neighbours conveyed their suspicion that he murdered his mother.
The body of the mother, Rabeya Begum, 55, wife of late Hazrat Ali, was recovered by police from the residence around 6:00am yesterday and sent to the morgue of Sir Salimullah Medical College for autopsy.
The neighbours said they heard Rabeya and her only son, Mohammad Rasel, the only members of the residence, noisily quarreling around 3:00am. Sometime afterwards they heard the son crying. On investigation, they found Rabeya lying dead by her bed.
Rasel, a carpenter by profession, claimed Rabeya died after falling down from the bed during an altercation about his marriage, said Sub-Inspector Abdul Awal of Kadamtali Police Station.
