Shun destructive politics: Minister
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan yesterday called upon the opposition to shun the path of destructive politicsransacking vehicles and killing people through torching vehicles in the name of hartal.
He said this while visiting Dhaka Medical College Hospital Morgue to see the mortal remains of bus driver Badar Ali, who was burnt to death in pre-hartal violence at the capital's Khilgaon on Saturday.
Among others, Secretary General of Bangladesh Bus Owners Association Khondokar Enayetullah and General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation Osman Ali were present.
Terming the death as pre-planned killing, the minister said Badar is a victim of the country's dirty politics.
“Opposition should give up such negative politics and killing people by torching vehicles”, he said.
Shahjahan condemned the incident and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
The minister handed over Tk 10,000 to the victim's brother Jabed Ali for Badar's burial and assured the family members of financial assistance on behalf of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation and Bus Owners Association.
