Digital devices and teachers

We are living in an age of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and Bangladesh is under the process of digitisation. Computers have been provided to schools for developing ICT skills of students at the early stage of education. But a question generally comes to our mind whether our teachers are adequately trained for imparting ICT education among the students. Again we wonder whether the curriculum has been appropriately designed and digital classroom environment is being created for imparting ICT education. For successful implementation of ICT learning strategies, teachers need to be trained on ICT skill first. Then comes the status of digital devices. For instance, how many students are there for one computer? Research in some developing countries found that the rural people learn ICT skills well at the ratio of 1 computer per 8 students. It has also been observed that the learners learn more quickly using laptop. In this connection, the "UNESCO ICT Competency Standards Implementation Guidelines" may be followed which suggests that digital resources should be used directly at the point of instruction integrated with curriculum and teaching practices.
