Woman found dead at in-law's house
Wife of an expatriate was found dead at her in-law's house at Raozan upazilla in Chittagong early yesterday.
The deceased is Sarjina Akter, 19, daughter of Moahmmed Yusuf of Natoan Bagicha area in Raozan upazila. Her husband Rabiul Hasan is an expatriate in Kuwait.
On information, police recovered the body laying on the bed of a room in her law's house at Andharmanik village in the upazila around 10:00am, said Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Police Station Nurul Amin.
Quoting Sarjina's mother-in-law Ankura Begum, police said Sarjina committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her room.
“Seeing her hanging in her room, I along with my two daughters broke opened the door and got down her but we found her dead,” Ankura Begum told police.
Quoting Sarjina's father, OC Nurul Amin said Sarjina was killed by her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Sarjina's father told police that Sarjina's mother-in-law informed him around 3:30am yesterday that Sarjina committed suicide. Suspecting as a murder after visiting Sarjina's law's house in the morning he informed police of the matter.
As Sarjina's husband is living out of the country, her in-laws often tortured her after her marriage on last December, Sarjina's father told police.
Sisters-in-laws of Sarjina went into hiding after the incident.
Police sent the body to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for an autopsy and arrested Sarjina's mother-in-law Ankura Begum.
Victim's father filed a murder case with the police.
“We can say whether it was 'killing' or 'suicide' after the post mortem report,” said OC Nurul Amin.
