RU dean, syndicate polls today

Teachers at Rajshahi University will vote for electing deans and representatives to syndicate, academic council and planning and development committee today. Sources said 75 teachers submitted nomination papers for 20 different posts in the elections, while 17 of them later withdrew. The deadline for nomination paper submission expired on April 16 and for nomination paper withdrawal on April 18. Prof Abul Kashem of yellow panel (backed by Progressive Teachers Society), Prof Abdul Hai Talukder of white panel (backed by BNP-Jamaat) and Dr Sabirul Islam Hawlader of golden panel (backed by BNP) will vie for the post of dean at arts faculty. At law faculty, Prof Biswajit Chandra of yellow panel and Abdul Hannan of white panel will run for the post, without having any contestant from golden panel. Prof Anwarul Islam of yellow panel, Prof Azhar Ali of white panel and Dr Abdullah Ansari of golden panel will vie for the post of dean at science faculty, while Prof Madan Mohan Dey of yellow panel and Prof Amzad Hossain of white panel will compete at business studies faculty. Dr Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan of yellow panel, Prof Badrul Islam of white panel and Dr Zia Uddin of golden panel will run for dean at life and earth faculty. At social sciences faculty, the contestants for the post are Prof Ansar Uddin of yellow panel, Prof Ashrafuzzaman of white panel and Prof Nazrul Islam Mia of golden panel. Dr Abu Mohammad Shahidul Alam of yellow panel, Dr Aminul Haque of white panel and Dr Delwar Hossain of golden panel will run for dean at agriculture faculty, while Dr Biswanath Sikder and Dr Arifur Rahman will take part in the polls as independent candidates. Prof Dr Mamunur Rashid Talukder of yellow panel and Dr Shahidur Rahman of white panel will vie for the post of dean at engineering faculty. In the syndicate election, Dr Nasima Akter of yellow panel and Dr Serezzaman of white panel will compete under provost category, while Prof Shafikunnabi Samadi of yellow panel, Prof Nazrul Islam of white panel and Prof MA Bari of golden panel will vie under professor category. Dr SM Ekram Ullah of yellow panel, Mosarrof Hossain of white panel and Dr Nurul Alam of golden panel will contest at the polls under associate professors category. Salah Uddin of yellow panel, Saiful Islam of white panel and SM Shafiuzzaman of golden panel will also compete under assistant professors category, while Mustak Ahmed and Tareque Nur of Progressive Teachers' Society will compete independently. The lecturer category candidates are Abdul Alim of yellow panel and Al Amin Sarker of white panel. In the polls for three teacher representatives in academic council, the contestants are Dr Nazrul Islam-2, Dr Altaf Hossain and Dr Istiak Hossain of yellow panel; Dr Abdul Bari, Dr Anwar Hossain and Dr AHM Khurshid Alam of white panel; and Prof Nuruzzaman Haque and Dr Abdur Razzak Zoarder of golden panel. Prof Nazul Islam of yellow panel, Dr Abdul Matin Talukder of white panel and Prof Khandaker Enamul Haque of golden panel will vie for being elected representatives of planning and development committee.
