BBA student 'kills herself'
A third year BBA student of a private university hanged herself to death at her boyfriend's rented flat in the capital's Banasree on Monday night.
The girl left a note saying she was jilted and blamed Amlan Shaha, a second year BBA student at the same university, for breaking up with her unilaterally.
A Muslim by religion, she had been having the love affair with Amlan for the last one year. The girl had a quarrel with Amlan a few hours before committing suicide.
Amlan, who comes from a Hindu family, told her that his parents were against their cross-religion marriage.
Rampura police quoted Amlan as saying that the girl used to visit the flat, where Amlan lives with another friend, without knowledge of her family.
The 22-year-old girl conceived two months ago, according to sources at Dhaka Medical College morgue.
Around 11:30pm on Monday, Amlan informed the girl's younger sister of the suicide over phone and asked her to take away the body.
The victim's family, living at Dhaka Housing, informed the incident it to Adabor police, who along with Rampura police later recovered the body and sent it to DMC.
Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station, quoted Amlan as saying that after quarrelling with him, she entered a room and hanged herself with a bed sheet.
He and his friend found her dead after breaking open the door, he added.
The victim's family filed a case against Amlan, and Rampura police arrested him.
