Four Bangladeshi workers were killed in a road accident in Oman on Tuesday. Three of them were identified as Ganesh Chandra Das, Khokon Chandra Das and Mamun, reported Gulf News quoting Oman's police. Mohsin Chowdhury, director (welfare) of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training, confirmed it, but could not give addresses of the victims. Preparations are on to send the bodies back here in a week, he told The Daily Star yesterday. The accident occurred near Birka, 100km north to Oman`s capital Muscat, as the driver fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle went off the road before hitting a stationary truck, said a police spokesperson. Rabiul Islam, labour Counsellor of Bangladesh Embassy in Oman, told the Gulf News no one of the four workers has any relatives in Oman, and social workers from the community were coordinating the process to send the bodies back to Bangladesh. "We at the embassy help them coordinate the process and Biman Airlines will fly the bodies free of charge," he added.
