Syndicate, Deans' Polls
Pro-AL panel blames VC for losing 5 posts
A faction of pro-Awami League (AL) and progressive teachers of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday claimed that they (yellow panel) lost five important posts in Wednesday's elections of the university syndicate and deans due to "conspiracy" of the university vice chancellor.
At a press conference on the campus, they alleged that a faction of pro-AL teachers, led by Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Abdus Sobhan, made collusion with pro-Jamaat-BNP teachers as the VC had failed to nominate his loyal candidates from yellow panel in the polls.
Progressive Teachers Society (PTS) Convener Prof M Shah Nowaz Ali read out a written statement at the event.
Prof Nowaz said pro-BNP and Jamaat teachers (white panel) from white panel bagged two posts in the Wednesday's syndicate polls and three posts in deans' election though they had no possibility to win the polls.
He further said the pro-AL and progressive teachers (yellow panel) bagged 15 posts out of total 20 in the elections to syndicate, deans' committee, academic council, and planning and development committee.
The RU VC was not available for his comments in this regard.
