Sher-e-Bangla's death anniversary today

Today is the 50th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, a national leader of the undivided Bengal. Milad mahfils will be held at House No-32, Block-C at Banani and 27 KM Das Lane, Tikatuli and Baridhara residences in the capital today. Paying tributes to the great politician, President Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia gave separate messages. Fazlul Huq was born on October 26, 1873 at Saturia of the then Bakerganj district. Fazlul Huq held different political posts, including general secretary of Indian National Congress, Education Minister, the first Muslim Mayor of Calcutta and Chief Minister of undivided Bengal and East Pakistan. Sher-e-Bangla played an important role in the society through poverty reduction, economic empowerment and education. He also contributed a lot to the oppressed and exploited farmers and labourers in the country by formulating Rin Salishi Board (Debt Arbitration Board).
