Name Padma bridge after Sher-e-Bangla

Family members of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq, a national leader of the undivided Bengal, yesterday urged the government to name the proposed Padma bridge after the great leader. Syed Margub Morshed, former secretary and a grandson of Sher-e-Bangla, placed the demand at a discussion yesterday, marking the 50th death anniversary of the leader. "I urge the government to name the Padma bridge after Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq whenever the bridge is built to pay homage to him," said Morshed. Sher-e-Bangla National Memorial Council organised the programme at the mausoleum of AK Fazlul Huq near Dowel Chattar of Dhaka University (DU) in the morning. It also placed wreaths at the mausoleum. The speakers said Sher-e-Bangla played an important role for the well being of the people in the fields of poverty reduction, economic empowerment as well as education. DU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said Sher-e-Bangla played a key role in setting up a lot of institutions to educate the nation. Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University VC Prof Shah-e-Alam, Mohila Awami League President Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf and Biswa Bangali Sammelan President poet Muhammad Abdul Khalek, among others, also spoke.
