Suranjit made minister in line with constitution
Says law minister
The government has made Suranjit Sengupta a minister without portfolio in line with the constitution, and nobody should make any comment on this issue, which can create confusion, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said yesterday.
He made this remark while talking to reporters after attending as the chief guest a reunion of ex-students of Ideal Commerce College on its campus in the capital.
On the recent resignation of Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj from parliamentary membership, he said the Speaker of the House would decide as per the constitution whether the resignation would be accepted or not.
Sohel Taj, son of the country's first prime minister Tajuddin Ahmad, sent his resignation letter to the Speaker on April 23.
At the reunion programme, the law minister urged the ex-students to learn the real history of the 1971 Liberation War.
Students should know about those who had opposed the independence of the then East Pakistan and also about the people who had played courageous roles during the war, he said.
The minister also spoke against corruption and addiction to drug and smoking. The present government is sincere in making a corruption free society, he noted.
He also urged the young generation to say no to corruption and addiction in order to make the country a better place for living.
Presided over by MA Halim Patwari, president of the governing body of Ideal Commerce College, the function was also addressed by Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, and Prof Mahfuza Khanam, president of World Federation of Teachers Union.
