Ensure safety of war crimes trial witnesses
Former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and President of city Awami League (AL) ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury yesterday said as from tomorrow the International Crimes Tribunal would start recording deposition of the witnesses, it would be the government's duty to make sure that the witnesses could reach the court safely and got their job done.
He urged the government to ensure the security of the witnesses after the trial as well.
He was addressing a human chain organised by Muktijoddha Janata-Chattagram in front of Chittagong Press Club in the port city yesterday.
Mohiuddin further said the general people should come forward to help the government in this regard and protest any kind of chaos and anarchy to foil the trial.
General Secretary of city AL (North) Mosleh Uddin Ahmed and lawmaker Nurul Islam BSc were present at the programme.
Nurul Islam said it was the BNP who hid Ilias Ali to make an issue to get the trial delayed.
Speakers at the human chain demanded that the government complete war crimes trial within the shortest possible time.
If the trial was not completed, the people would remain responsible to the martyrs of Liberation War, the speakers added.
