Man arrested for 'raping' physically challenged girl
Police arrested a man from his Mehedinagar residence at Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong on Saturday night for allegedly raping a fifteen-year-old physically challenged girl on April 22.
The arrestee, Mohammed Iqbal, 21, attacked the girl, suffering from paralysis on one hand and leg, while she was going by his residence, forcibly took her into his house and raped her, said police.
The girl had come on a visit to her uncle's house in the locality.
“We produced Iqbal before the court today (Sunday) and the court sent him to jail,” said Sub-Inspector Mahbub Milki of Mirsarai Police Station.
After the attack, the girl's guardians admitted her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while Iqbal, who worked in a nearby poultry farm, fled.
The guardians then lodged a case with Mirsarai Police Station on Saturday.
Iqbal confessed to the crime in police custody, said the SI, also the investigation officer of the case.
“The present and former Union Parishad councillors, Sona Mia and Mohammed Kamal, had warned the family not to file a case. They also tried to obstruct police from making the arrest,” he added.
Denying the allegations, Sona Mia said they were only trying to settle the matter through arbitration.
