OC Helal's bail prayer rejected again
A bail petition of Md Helal Uddin, former officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station, was rejected again yesterday in a case over the torture of Dhaka University student Abdul Kadar in custody.
Judge Mohammad Zahurul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka turned down the bail petition when his lawyer filed a criminal appeal against the lower court rejection order.
Helal is also accused of falsely implicating the youth in several criminal cases, including robbery and carjacking.
The First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate denied him bail on April 9.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mizanur Rahman sent Helal to jail on the latter's surrender in a case filed against him with the police station on January 23.
Kadar, a student of biochemistry and molecular biology department, filed the case in line with recommendations of a law ministry probe committee and a High Court order.
Helal was sent to jail on April 2 when he surrendered before the court and seeking bail in the case.
