8 killed, 25 hurt in road crashes
Road blocked in Magura, Natore
Eight people were killed and 25 others, including two journalists, injured in separate road accidents in Magura, Pabna, Natore, Thakurgaon and Jessore on Sunday and yesterday.
Our Magura correspondent reports: Three people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck on Magura-Jessore highway at Chhoyghoria in Shalikha upazila yesterday noon.
The deceased were Shahin Molla, 30, the trucker; Humayun Biswas, 28, and Atiar Rahman, 35, day labourers, of Shatakhali village in the upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus of AK Paribahan collided head-on with a Jessore-bound truck, killing Shahin and Humayun instantly and injuring Atiar critically. The injured succumbed to his injuries at Jessore General Hospital.
Following the accident, agitating people put up barricades on the highway disrupting traffic movement for about one hour.
In Pabna, two people died and 10 others were injured as a passenger bus fell into a roadside ditch at Moraripara in Sujanagar upazila yesterday.
The deceased were Poritosh Haldar, 28, and Subash Mondol, 32.
Police said a Najirganje ghat-bound bus from Kashinathpur plunged into a ditch in the area as its driver lost his control over the steering at about 1:30pm, killing the two instantly and injuring 10 others.
Of the injured, Mofiz, Okhil, Reba and Harun were admitted to Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex.
In Natore, motorcyclist Md Shahidullah, 52, died on the spot when a Rajshahi-bound truck from Pabna hit his motorbike from behind on Rajshahi-Pabna highway in Koyen Bazar area yesterday morning.
Angry people blocked the highway for about one hour hampering the vehicular movement.
In Thakurgaon, two journalists were seriously injured as a truck hit their motorbike on Thakurgaon-Baliadangi road at Shukanipara village in Baliadangi upazila yesterday afternoon.
They were ATM Samsuzzoha Bablu, the district correspondent of Channel-i and the daily Jugantor and Feroz Amin Sarcar, the district correspondent of ATN Bangla, ATN news and the daily Manabzamin.
Locals rushed them to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. Later, Bablu was shifted to Dhaka Suhrawardy Hospital.
In Jessore, Lakhsmi Rani Pal, 40, wife of Gonesh Pal, was killed as a truck hit a motorbike carrying her in Satmile area in sadar upazila on Sunday.
In another accident, bus helper Rustom Ali, 32, was killed instantly and 13 others were injured as the bus hit a tree beside Jessore-Monirampur road in Kuada area yesterday morning.
