Four killed in road accidents

Four people were killed and four others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Patuakhali and Thakurgaon on Monday and yesterday. Our Chittagong correspondent reports: Two motorcyclists were killed as a bus hit their motorbike on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Borotakia in Mirsarai on Monday night. The deceased were Md Belal Hossain, 33, and Md Joynal Abdin, 35. Highway police said a bus rammed the motorbike from the opposite direction in the area under Mirsarai Police Station at around 9:00pm, killing the two instantly. In Patuakhali, college girl Tuli Akhter, 17, daughter of Rafiqul Islam Khan, died on the spot and four others got injured as a truck hit a tomtom (mechanised van) carrying her in Kalapara at about 9:30am yesterday. The injured, including Tuli's classmate Rubina Akhter, took primary treatment at a local clinic. In Thakurgaon, construction worker Dipu, 16, son of Jamuni, was killed when a Dhaka-bound bus from Panchagarh hit him while he was standing beside Thakurgaon-Panchagargh highway at Chowdhuryhat village in the sadar upazila yesterday.
