Nine killed in road accidents

Nine people, including two of a family, were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Habiganj, Gazipur, Dinajpur and Kishoreganj yesterday. Staff correspondent from Sylhet reports: Four people were killed and three others injured as a truck rammed a pick-up van from the opposite direction on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Haritala area of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj yesterday morning. The deceased were Abdul Quader, 30, of village Bargharia in Karimganj upazila, Anwar Ali, 35, of village Hapasia in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj, Sadhan Chandra Biswas, 30, of village Asrampara in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh and Anwar Miah, 28, of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. The injured were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. In another incident, Tofayel Ahmed Imon, 17, died as a truck ran over him on the highway in Bejora area of the same upazila at about 3:30pm yesterday. In Gazipur, a boy and his maternal uncle were killed instantly and two others injured when a bus hit a rickshaw carrying them in front of Bata shoe factory in Tongi at around 7:00am yesterday. The victims were Imon, 8, and his uncle Tota Miah, 25, hailing from Chowgachha upazila in Jessore. The injured Minu Begum, Imon's mother and Sakib, 10, his elder brother were rushed to a local hospital. In Dinajpur, teenage motorcyclist Reza Babu, son Nizam Uddin Sarker, was killed as his motorbike hit a rickshaw on Ranirbandar-Khansama road in Ranirbandar area of Khansama upazila yesterday morning. In Kishoreganj, Rasel, 8, son of Elhaz Mia, died instantly as a tomtom (three-wheeler) ran over him at Sheura village in the sadar upazila yesterday.
