Man jailed for fake identity of doctor
A man was jailed for a year yesterday on charge of impersonating a doctor at Bangladesh Jatiya Andha Kalyan Samity's eye hospital at Baligram in the town.
The sentence on Golam Mostofa alias ST Islam, 40, came at a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate TM Momen after he failed to pay the initial Tk 50,000 fine.
The hospital called police on finding that Golam had no registration with Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council after suspicion arose when he failed to provide original copies of his MBBS and medical specialist certificates.
During his appointment on January 11, Golam, son of Hasan Ali of Barobagpur village at Razapur upazila of Jhalkathi, had provided only copies of the certificates.
Some 4,000 patients might have been misdiagnosed by the fraudster, fears a member of the district unit of the samity, Hasib Hossain.
