Students in China once played an important role. It has gone down in history as the May 4 Movement.
During the Cultural Revolution, it became apparent that students could be made to respond to any kind of stimuli bad, as well as good. That is to say, they were only human.
Having learnt from experience, the authorities crushed the student movement of Tiananmen Square with an iron hand.
