New manual on maternal health

Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) yesterday launched a new training manual for community health workers with a focus on improving maternal health. “The new manual will be utilised to train community health workers in 424 upazilas, who are already undergoing training to provide basic health care to village people”, said Makhduma Nargis, director of Community Health Clinic Project. She said this at the launching programme of the manual at BMRC conference room in the capital. Following its launching, the manual was distributed in a workshop titled “Dissemination of manuals developed for reduction in maternal mortality for community health workers.” Addressing as chief guest, Gowher Rizvi, prime minister's international affairs adviser, said, “Some of the finest people were working for this revised, state-of-art manual.” Danish International Development Agency funded the new manual project to fulfil the target of achieving the health-related Millennium Development Goal. Svend Olling, ambassador at Royal Danish Embassy in Dhaka, Prof Dr Mahmud Hasan, chairman of BMRC, and Prof Dr MH Millat, director of BMRC, also attended the programme.
