Seven killed in road accidents

Seven people were killed and 51 others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Gaibandha and Dinajpur on Saturday and yesterday. Our Ctg Correspondent reports: Two men were killed and six others injured when a truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Mirsarai in Chittagong yesterday. The deceased were Sahab Mia, 62, of Haji Sarai village, and Nurul Absar, 30, of Chaitanya Hat in Mirsarai upazila. The injured were Md Arman , 23, of Double Mooring, Md Ahmadi, 40, of Mirsarai, and Mojaffar, 18, Zoha, 18, Alauddin,38, and Mahabub, 17, from Kochua, Gaibandha. Among the injured, Ahmadi and Alauddin were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition while the rest of the injured were taking treatment at Mastan Nagar Health Complex in Mirsarai, said police. Sahab Mia and Ahmadi were on the truck while others were in the auto-rickshaw when the accident occurred. Our Rajshahi University Correspondent reports: Three people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents at Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on Saturday night and yesterday . The deceased were identified as Azizul Haque, 42, son of Harunur Rashid of Godagari upazila, Babu, 32, son of Azhar Ali of Gomastapur upazila in Chapainawabganj. The other deceased was an unidentified mentally challenged youth. The injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). A Rajshahi-bound passenger bus from Dhaka named Zia Travel ran over pedestrian Azizul Haque at 'C and B' intersection in Godagari upazila, leaving him dead on the spot, said witnesses. Then it lost its control and overturned which left Babu dead on the spot and 30 other passengers of the bus injured. Meanwhile, in a separate accident an unidentified mentally challenged youth died as a bus ran over him in Holermore area of the same upazila. Our Gaibandha Correspondent adds: A truck helper was killed and the truck driver and 14 bus passengers were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Rangpur-Bogra highway in Bakchar area of Gobindaganj upazila yesterday noon. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The injured were taken to Gobindaganj health complex. Of them, five were shifted to Bogra Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Our Dinajpur Correspondent reports: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident in Ghoraghat upazila on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Md Jahid Hossan, Raniganj branch manager of Prime Insurance Company in the upazila. The motorcycle of Jahid hit a goat near Raniganj Bazar and fell on the ground losing its control, leaving jahid injured critically. Later, he succumbed to his injuries at the upazila health complex.
