The body of a youth found in a sack at Dakkhin Monipur of Mirpur in the capital on Friday was identified at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) morgue yesterday. The deceased was Shamim Pyada, 28, a fish trader and son of Abdul Khaleque Pyada of Golachipa upazila headquarters under Patuakhali. Police arrested Ibrahim Fakir, of the same village as the victim's, from Mirpur yesterday. The victim's wife Shirin Akhter along with her relatives identified the body at DMC morgue. Mirpur Police Station OC Kazi Wazed Ali told The Daily Star yesterday that when Shamim's wife along with her relatives went to the spot of the body recovery, she saw Ibrahim wandering there. When Shirin called him, Ibrahim tried to run away. On suspicion, her relatives caught him and handed him over to police. During interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to police that he and four others led by Delwar of the same village had strangled Shamim in a mess at Ananda Bazar in Mirpur on Wednesday. The following day, Ibrahim dumped the body in a sack on a plot at Dakkhin Monipur in Mirpur. Ibrahim told police that about 45 days ago Delwar and Shamim had a skirmish over a watermelon orchard at their village home. Shamim beat Delwar and his associates. They killed Shamim in revenge, said Ibrahim to police. Our correspondent from Patuakhali adds: Shamim Pyada was a Jubo League activist and his elder brother Jahangir Hossain Tutu is a former councilor for Golachipa municipality. Shamim's sister Dolly lodged a GD with Fatullah Police Station on May 18.
