Probe begins

The two probe committees formed for probing Monday's Sylhet central jail incident began their investigations yesterday. Senior Jail Superintendent of the jail Md Tipu Sultan said security arrangements inside and outside the jail has been tightened following the incident, which left nine injured in a clash between jail inmates and guards. DIG of Prison Md Fazlur Rahman, who is heading the three-member departmental probe committee, said they started the probe from Tuesday and statements from 36 people of the jail, including jail staffs and inmates, have been taken so far. Meanwhile, the other five-member enquiry committee also started their investigation on the incident through talking with jail warders and inmates at the jail yesterday, said Additional District Magistrate of Sylhet Md Shahab Uddin Khan, also the probe body chief.
