350 launch passengers escape accident
A launch with some 350 passengers barely survived an accident in the river Dhaleshwari in Munshiganj Thursday night after it was hit by a storm and developed a crack in its bottom.
The master immediately drove the Barisal-bound vessel, MV Koko-1, ashore and anchored it near Shah Cement Factory in Muktarpur around 10:00pm.
Later another launch, MV Koko-5, came to the rescue of the passengers around 1:00am yesterday. After evacuation, it started for Barisal at about 2:30am.
The vessel will be taken to the dockyard for repair.
