Here are some comments that came in response to Sunday's The Daily Star news report headlined “3 lens men assaulted”
Dr Islam
We are not surprised, it's just one of the regular inhuman acts committed by many of our law enforcers. Md. Nazrul Islam
The police department has already lost its acceptability to the common people. The police are in no way considered the protector of people's rights. Only suspension or withdrawal from one place to another can not be the proper action for reducing such unlawful activities of the policemen. They need to be put under trial for violating human rights. NDS
If this is the way the police consider appropriate to handle the on-duty photo journalists, then what awaits the common citizens in this so- called democratic country? We think these particular police personnel do not represent the entire police force. We wait to see whether our view is correct. Farhana
How long we will see these types of torture and oppression? By assaulting journalists and opposition leaders, police officers are showing their cruelty which is very undemocratic and inhuman. M. Hasan
Assaulting the general people, politicians and journalists and beating them up brutally by the police personnel have become a daily affair in our country. Such misdeeds must be stopped. They must be brought under law. I request the honourable home minister and the authorities concerned to take rigid action against the offenders. Nasirullah Mridha, USA
Police assaulting the photo journalists proves that the morality of the policemen has plunged into a deep gorge. Amdem, USA
It is evident that police have become very powerful in Bangladesh. There are several reasons for this: 1) Police has been given a wide range of power. 2) Police has been politicised and is being used by the government against the political opposition. 3) Police force has been recruited from among the members of BCL who believe in their superiority and are supported by the government. N. Alamgir
The police force in Bangladesh does not have the ability to solve any case. They have failed to solve the cases like Sagar-Runi, Lokman and Saudi diplomat murder and thousands of other cases. Professionally, they have totally failed. How inefficient they are! They just can apply their brutal power on journalists and on the common people. I highly condemn this police force and ask the responsible ministry to take immediate action.
