Five killed, 20 hurt in road accidents

Five people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha, Narail, Dinajpur and Chittagong yesterday. Our Gaibandha correspondent reports: Three people were killed and six others injured as a bus hit them on Gobindaganj-Dinajpur road at Kaiyaganj in Gobindaganj upazila yesterday morning. The deceased were Nasiruddin, 55, Tota Mia, 45, and Mozammel Huq, 50. Police said the accident occurred when a Dinajpur-bound bus rammed a number of pedestrians on the road as the driver lost his control over the steering at around 9:00am. The injured were taken to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex. In Narail, Fazar Fakir, 68, died after he fell down from a three-wheeler in Chowgachha brickfield area in Lohagara upazila at around 11:30am yesterday. In Dinajpur, motorcyclist Md Mostaque Ali 65, a retired medical officer of Ghoraghat Upazila Health Complex, died instantly as a truck rammed his motorbike in Ghoraghat upazila yesterday noon. In Chittagong, 14 people were injured as a bus plunged into a ditch beside Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Rahmat Nagar in Sitakunda upazila yesterday. Of them, 13 were Shohagh, 25, Jakir, 21, Kuddus, 43, Mizan, 30, Alamgir, 40, Zahirul Islam, 34, Shahid, 28, Harunur Rashid, 30, Abdul Awal, 40, Taslima Begum, 9, Rumana Akter, 18, Urmila, 2, and Shamim, 35. They were rushed to the upazila health complex. Later, seven of them were shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
