Call to rehabilitate risky hill residents
Several organisations in the port city yesterday demanded immediate rehabilitation of the residents living in the risky hilly areas of Chittagong.
They formed a human chain and held a rally in front of Chittagong Press Club in the morning to press home their three-point demand.
Jono Uddog, Poribesh Chhatra Forum, Bornali and People's Voice jointly organised the programme.
Among their other demands were exemplary punishment to those who occupy the hills and allure low income people to live there and implementation of recommendations by Hills-Management and other committees.
Speakers said coordination among different groups involved with the hills is essential to protect the hills and the people living there.
Red Crescent Chittagong Unit, Bangladesh Nari Progoti Songho and Askar Dighi and Kazir Dewri Community Forum took part in the human chain and rally.
Members of the organisations Idris Ali, Sarif Chouhan, Dr Nurul Bashar, Prof Younus Hasan, Atikur Rahman, Kamrul Islam, Abdul Mabud, Salauddin Tansen and Kaiser Alam also addressed at rally.
