Fruit shop fined, mangoes destroyed
A mobile court fined a fruit shop Tk 25,000 for selling formalin injected mangoes and destroyed around 1,200 kgs of mangoes in the port city yesterday.
The court, led by Chittagong City Corporation Executive Magistrate Joynal Abedin, conducted a drive at fruit wholesale market Falmondi at Dovash Field in Firingi Bazar.
It fined Al-Madina Farm Tk 25,000 after detecting the presence of formalin in the mangoes of the shop and seized 1,200 kgs of adulterated mangoes, worth Tk 75,000, from the shop.
Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) officials and police assisted the drive.
Later, the mangoes were destroyed at the City Corporation dumping ground in Halishahar.
