8 killed in road accidents
Eight people were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Noakhali, Sirajganj, Chittagong and Feni on Wednesday and yesterday.
Our staff correspondent reports: A man was killed when a vehicle hit him while crossing the road at Khamar Bari in Farmgate area of the capital yesterday morning.
The dead Babul Hossain, 32, was a staffer of Fashion Garments Ltd.
A private car driver, Moshiur Rahman, took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared him dead.
Moshiur said Babul had fallen on his car after being hit by a vehicle.
The DMCH camp police suspected that it was the car which hit Babul.
Our Noakhali correspondent reports: Three people died and another was injured as a microbus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from the opposite direction at Nadona Bazar in Sonaimuri upazila yesterday morning.
The dead were Sohel, 24, the auto-rickshaw driver; Kiron, 40, and Siraj, 60, passengers of the vehicle.
Of them, Sohel and Kiron died instantly while Siraj succumbed to his injuries at Noakhali Medical College Hospital.
Injured Taslima, 27, was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
In another accident, a truck hit Abul Kahsem, 25, at Chaurasta in Begumganj upazila at around 8:30am yesterday, killing him instantly.
In Sirajganj, a bus ran over an unidentified man, aged around 65, on Enayetpur-Sirajganj road in Subarnasara area of Belkuchi upazila on Wednesday night, killing him on the spot.
In Chittagong, Md Jahirul Alam, 70, a night guard and resident of Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) area, was killed when an unknown vehicle hit him in the area of the port city yearly hours of yesterday.
Bandar police said the accident occurred while Jahirul was on duty and crossing a road adjacent to a market.
A correspondent from Feni says: An oil carrying tank-lorry collided head-on with a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong at Muhuriganj in the sadar upazila yesterday, killing the tank-lorry driver, Ismail Hossain, 28, and injuring his helper.
Injured Mister Mia, 25, was admitted to a local clinic.
