Rail official sued on charge of raping girl
Rajshahi additional chief commercial manager (ACCM) of Bangladesh railway (west) was accused of raping an 11-year-old domestic help.
The victim's mother filed a case against ACCM SM Murad Hossain with Boalia Model Police Station last Saturday accusing him of raping her daughter several times while the girl worked for him as a domestic help.
She said her daughter has been too afraid to speak publicly about it.
On May 27, the victim ran away from Murad's residence to go to her village in Dinajpur but she was caught at Abdulpur station in Natore after Murad reported her missing to different railway offices, the victim's mother said.
According to the case, caretakers of Rajshahi Railway Station handed the girl over to police after she began crying and refusing to go to Murad's house.
Later, Dil Sitara Begum Chuni, an assigned lawyer of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital's One stop Crisis Centre (OCC), admitted the victim to the centre, the case stated.
Omar Sharif, sub-inspector of Boalia Police Station and the investigation office of the case, said Murad went into hiding after the case was filed.
"We are trying to arrest the alleged officer," he said.
Ferdous Alam, general manager of Bangladesh railway (west), said that Murad is now on leave.
