The authorities of English department at Chittagong University (CU) are allegedly charging students of three running sessions extra on top of examination fees, without providing any receipt. Students of the department claimed that they have to pay Tk 400 more with their exam fees but the department is not giving them any document. The form filling process started from May 27 and will continue till June 18, department sources said. A second year (improvement) examinee said, “The department is taking the money from us without providing any receipt.” Another examinee of second year said, “We do not know why the extra money is being taken.” Chairman of the department, Ajmeri Ara, admitting to the extra charges said, “I asked the section officer to give money receipts to the students but he did not do so.” “The money is deposited in the name of 'Students Activities Fund' which is spent for the students in different extra-curricular activities,” the chairman said. “There is an opportunity to misappropriate the money. So I will discuss the matter with my teachers in the next academic meeting in the first week of July,” Ajmeri added. Section officer of the department, Mohammad Yusuf said, “As we become busy during the form filling formalities, we provide money receipts after completing it.” Vice Chancellor Anwarul Azim Arif said, “Departmental chairman is the responsible person to look into the matter, yet I will also look into it.”
