Worker dies in accident
A construction worker died after an iron pillar fell on him while he was removing a scaffolding of a newly constructed bridge in the capital's Kunipara of Tejgaon area yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Ripon, 27, hailing from Panchpara village of Pirojpur Sadar upazila.
He had been working on the bridge under a project titled "Integrated Development of Hatirjheel Area Including Begun Bari Khal", jointly implemented by Bangladesh Army and LGED.
According to victim's co-workers, without any safety gear Ripon was loosening the scaffolding of the bridge when a supporting pipe suddenly became dislodged and fell on him crushing him.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead.
