Eleven killed in road accidents

Eleven people, including two minor boys, were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Dhaka, Rangpur, Chittagong and Jessore on Saturday and yesterday. Our Sirajganj correspondent reports, four people were killed and five others injured as a fruits-laden truck hit another truck loaded with cattle on Hatikumrul-Bonpara road at Naimuri in Salanga area of the district yesterday morning. The dead are Jahurul Islam, 35, Anowar Hossain, 25, Kutthi Mia, 50, and Altaf Hossain, 45. Police said the truck loaded with mangoes hit the cattle-laden truck while it was standing on the road, killing two people instantly while the other two on the way to hospital. UNB says, a rickshaw-van driver was crushed under the wheels of a bus near Ahsania Mission in Kakrail of the capital yesterday morning. The deceased is Forkan Matabbar, 30, hailing from Patuakhali and a resident of Dakkhin Keraniganj. Ramna police said a bus rammed a fruits-laden van at about 8:00am, killing the van driver instantly. In another accident, an unidentified teenage boy was run over by a bus on Biswa Road at Singer Gali under Mugda Police Station at about 1:30pm. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Our Rangpur correspondent adds, two people died instantly as a coach hit a pick-up van from behind on Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Baradargah area of Pirganj upazila on Saturday night. The deceased are Juyet Ali, 42, driver of the van, and Aiub Ali, 30, his helper. In Chittagong, Siraj Miah, 42, was killed on the spot when a truck rammed another standing truck from behind on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway before Madambibir Hat Forest Check Post in Shitakunda upazila early hours of yesterday. In another incident, Md Jisan, 5, son of Mizanur Rahman, died when a truck hit him at Nimtala in the city yesterday. In Jessore, a truck ran over Netai Chandra, 10, son of Ronjit Mondol, while he was crossing the road in Monirampur upazila Bazar area yesterday morning, leaving him dead.
