Three BNP-led 18-party activists held
Police arrested three BNP-led 18-party activists on Saturday night on charge of torching vehicles during a clash with police in Kazir Dewry area in Chittagong city on May 13.
The arrestees are Md Abdul Mabud, 42, Md Rustom, 40, and Md Abul Hossain, 24.
Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sadip Kumar Das said some 30 BNP leaders, including the city unit general secretary Shahadat Hossain and BNP north district unit general secretary Aslam Chowdhury were, among others, accused in the case.
Police conducted drives in Bakshir Hat, Kazir Dewry and Enayet Bazar areas and arrested the three between 6:00pm and 9:00pm, he said.
At least 100 people, including police and journalists, were injured during a spate of clashes between BNP-Jamaat activists and law enforcers on May 13.
Six cases were filed against over 2,000 leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance in this connection.
