Atiur for women's right to know about their role
The country's women are contributing to the national economy in different ways, and they have the right to know about the reflection of their contributions in the national budget, said Dr Atiur Rahman, governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB), on Saturday.
He made the remarks at a book cover unveiling programme organised by Chattagram Academy at Chittagong Press Club.
Dr Atiur unveiled covers of three books titled "Budget Er Kotha O Jonoprottasha", "Nari O Bangladesh Er Arthanity" and "Narir Manush Haoar Songram: Jatisongher Udyog O Bangladesher Chalchitro" at the programme. Prof Hannana Begum, who is one of the directors of the BB governing body, wrote the books.
Dr Anupam Sen, vice-chancellor of Premier University, chaired the programme. MA Malek, editor of local Bangla daily 'Dainik Azadi', as special guest, Aminur Rashid Kaderi, director of Chattagram Academy, and Rashed Rauf, general secretary of Chittagong Press Club, Abul Momen, resident editor of The Prothom Alo in Chittagong, and educationalist Anwara Alam, among others, were present on the occasion.
In his speech, MA Malek said Prof Hannana has been doing researches on economics issues for years. The books are the testimony of her relentless work.
He also urged the BB governor to take initiatives for setting up at least fifty percent head offices of newly approved banks in Chittagong city.
Speaking on the occasion the writer Prof Hannana said, “In the books, I tried to show the economic problems which the country's women are facing now.”
Abul Momen said, “Though many self-reliant women are seen in our social sphere, their presence in politics or administrative sector is still very low.”
“The writer outlined the causes of the problems in the books," he said adding that ways to overcome the problems have also been discussed.
