JS body for massive afforestation
The parliamentary standing committee on water resources ministry yesterday stressed the importance of taking a well-thought-out plan to protect the Sundarbans and environment in the coastal areas through massive afforestation.
The recommendation came after it reviewed a parliamentary sub-committee report, submitted at the committee's 27th meeting at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with the committee Chairman RAM Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury in the chair.
The sub-committee, formed by the parliamentary body, had recommendations in the report which was prepared after it had visited the coastal districts, particularly the Sundarbans, which were badly affected by cyclone Aila in May 2009.
